“The Body of an Absent Heart” is a performative gesture created within an academic, institutional context. The performance centred on recordings of my heartbeat, accompanied by a poem inviting audience engagement. During the performance, I encountered its failing. The sound was not working, the audience did not know how to engage with the surrounding clay pieces, the poem proved insufficient. Yet, I continued. I trusted the movement of my body within the space, I confronted solitude. Such an experience, taught to stay with uncertainty and collectivity, to look with artistic inquiry as a process formed gradually through friction and persistence.
