Rituals

2024

Art practices expressed during or after a ritualistic process have always been part of my life. Accomplishing a state of inner balance, opening the channels leading to my higher self, accepting the existence of my position to the universe and performing in a non self-centred way, are some of the states that ceremonial artistic processes allow me to delve into. Rituals, these occasionally emblematic procedures or frivolous procedures, symbolising personal and communal actions for thousands of years, seem to disappear in the modern world. To use the worlds of Byung-Chul Han, “where everything is subordinated to production, ritual disappears”. This exact rapid production in almost every aspect of the current, has led to extinction of traditional symbolic actions. Through my practice I long to preserve what tends to be forgotten, by creating sculptures and sculptural items, each of which carries their own energy, standing as an autonomous entity speaking the sentiment or the trauma behind it. These objects come out as an urge during the ritualistic experiences. Meditative sessions, singing ancient psalms and other similar or seemingly primitive practices have been to me a vital force for creation.
